Flea & Parasite Treatments

Why They’re Required

We understand that many cats are indoor-only and may not usually receive regular flea or parasite treatments. However, when cats stay in a cattery, they are no longer in a single-home environment.

Even indoor cats can be exposed to fleas and parasites, as these can be brought into the home on:

  • clothing and footwear
  • visiting pets
  • other animals
  • everyday contact with the outside world

For this reason, all cats staying with us must be treated, regardless of whether they normally go outdoors.

Effectiveness of Treatments

Not all flea and parasite treatments are equally effective.

Some products — including certain supermarket brands and some older treatments — may no longer provide reliable protection, as fleas and parasites can develop resistance over time.

We ask owners to ensure they are using a high-quality, effective treatment to properly protect their cat during their stay.

You are welcome to choose the treatment that works best for you at home, but it must provide genuine protection.

Important to Know

When a cat stays in a cattery, it shares an environment with other cats.
While we maintain strict hygiene and cleaning standards, we cannot control the effectiveness of individual treatments.

If a cat returns home with fleas, this indicates that the treatment used was not effective, rather than exposure within the cattery. Effective treatments will protect your cat.

For this reason, flea and parasite treatments rely on owner honesty and consistency. We trust owners to treat their cats appropriately, and doing so helps protect every cat in our care.

Timing of Treatments

  • If your cat already follows a monthly or quarterly treatment routine, you can continue as normal
  • If you are treating your cat specifically for their stay with us, the treatment must be administered at least 3 days before arrival

This ensures the treatment has time to become fully effective before your cat enters the cattery environment.
